Fleischmann has the produced a N-scale version of the classic Swiss Reihe locomotive Re 460 from SBB Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (also known as CFF – Chemins de fer fédéraux Suisses (French) and FFS – Ferrovie federali svizzere (Italian)) that is Switzerland’s national rail company. The electric locomotive has the model name Lok 2000 and was built by ABB Asea Brown Boveri and SLM Schweizerische Lokomotiv-und Maschinenfabrik (which today is part of Stadler Rail Group).
The locomotive was designed by the world famous designer Pininfarina from Torino in Italy, which, incidentally, is best known for its car design. The train is 18.5 meters long and 3 meters wide, has a weight of about 85 tons and has a maximum speed of 200 km / h. It was built in 119 copies, and operates daily the Swiss railway. There are also versions of the locomotive in Norway as NSB EL 18, at Finland’s VR-Yhtymä Oy Sr2, and KCRC TLN / TLS with KCR (Kowloon-Canton Railway) in HongKong.
The model is a true copy of the real SBB CFF FFS Reihe 460 108-4, and is beautifully finished with great details. Model train comes pre-installed with digital audio decoder to engine sound and other sound effects and lights at both ends, and interior lighting. It has great driving qualities on Minitrix rails, and are beautiful to watch in action. The plan is to repainted it to a Norwegian EL18-lok. But it will be when I have been steady on both the paint and decals in 1:160. Until then it is Switzerland that rules!
The model is 11.5 cm from buffer to buffer, and has a height of 28 mm and a width of 19mm. More info at Fleischmann here.
